Impressive Rally lifts Alex Jordan to NV State Amateur Title
Nevada State Amateur winner Alex Jordan
LAS VEGAS, NV (July 11, 2018) - Behind a flawless 4-under 32 on the second nine Alex Jordan has won the Nevada State Amateur. Jordan finished 7-under after three days at TPC at Summerlin and three shots clear of second place Hazen Newman who finished 4-under.
After beginning the final round 4-under Jordan struggled out of the gates with a 1-over 37 front nine that dropped him back to 3-under. With the tournament very much up for grabs Jordan surged on the final nine holes. Jordan began his second nine with a par on the 10th before catching fire beginning with a birdie on the 11th, the first circle in a four in six hole stretch that ended with a birdie on No. 16.
Following two pars Jordan signed for a final round 3-under 69 to go along with tallies of 71-69 in the first two rounds.
“It’s really good for me because I have been putting in a lot of work on my game. I am really happy it’s finally coming around and I am able to win some tournaments. It was cool to see all of those names of the past champions on the trophy. I am really honored,” Alex Jordan told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Hazen Newman nearly overcame a first round 1-over 73 on his way to a runner-up showing, Brady Exber and Edward Fryatt shared third at 2-under while 1-under Wes Taylor was fifth.
Fryatt, the overnight leader, began the back nine on Wednesday three shots clear of the field but faded following a 4-over 40 on the second nine.
