Qualifying is complete for the 118th U.S. Women's Amateur; see who has made it to the Golf Club of Tennessee
VARIOUS SITES ACROSS THE U.S. (July, 2018) – The U.S. Golf Association is conducting U.S. Women’s Amateur qualifying at 23 sites across the country in the run-up to the 118th Women’s Amateur, to be played Aug. 6-12 at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.
Highlights from qualifying are included below:
June 25
Libby Winans led qualifiers at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, with a 2-under 69. Winans was roughly a month removed from winning the individual title at the 6A Texas state golf tournament. The Plano East graduate is now headed to the University of Oklahoma.
Five other players made it through the qualifier, most notably Arkansas senior Dylan Kim. She was one of four players in a tie for third at even par. A double-bogey at the par-5 17th dropped her from a share of medalist honors to qualifying on the number.

Colorado native Mary Weinstein was among the four women to advance from the qualifier at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve in Westminster, Colo. Weinstein, who will be a junior on the Denver women’s golf team, competed in all 11 tournaments for the Pios and was recently named the Summit League’s Newcomer of the Year.
Gillian Vance, another Colorado native who plays for the University of Colorado, also qualified.

Consider Ashley Gilliam’s medalist performance at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan., a warm-up for the state junior. Gilliam, a high-school junior, returned back to her home state of Tennessee and promptly won the Tennessee Girls Junior Championship three days later. Gilliam is headed for Mississippi State in two years.
The fourth and final spot at Eagle Bend went to Iowan Brooke Boardman, who earlier this year won the 4A state high school golf tournament by 11 shots.

Ty Akabane made her U.S. Women’s Open debut last summer, but this year it’s all about the Women’s Amateur. Akabane tied Ellie Slama for medalist honors at Woodburn (Ore.) Golf Course to advance.
Emilee Hoffman, a member of the Texas women’s golf team, took the third of six spots. Hoffman last month completed a dominant run through the match-play bracket to win the Women’s Western Amateur.

Houston senior Emily Gilbreth will make her first U.S. Women’s Amateur start and third USGA start after earning medalist honors at Sweetwater Country Club’s Cypress Course in Sugar Land, Texas.
Baylor sophomore Gurleen Kaur also advanced from Sweetwater. Kaur led the Bears to the NCAA Women’s Championship in May when illness struck many of her teammates. She finished tied for seventh individually as Baylor lost a play-off to reach team match play.

Playing in San Diego (near her hometown), Haley Moore continued a streak of strong summer play by qualifying for the Women’s Amateur. A year ago, Moore was T-3 in Women’s Am stroke play and advanced to the Round of 16. Since then, she has led her Arizona team to a national title (Moore earned the clinching point in match play) and won a Cactus Tour event in Las Vegas.
Three players tied for medalist honors at Bernardo Heights Country Club, including Bella Setio, Suzuka Yamaguchi and Rose Zhang, who won the 2017 Junior PGA Championship.

Brynn Walker led qualifying at Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, N.J., with a 5-under 67. Walker, who plays for North Carolina, made four consecutive birdies from Nos. 5-8 and closed with a birdie at No. 18 to edge Bianca Pagdanganan, the Arizona transfer who was instrumental in the Wildcats’ recent NCAA title. Pagdanganan’s card was much more colorful at Hackensack -- she bogeyed the second hole, eagled the fourth and added three more birdies for a 4-under 68.
Ina Kim-Schaad will play her second consecutive U.S. Women’s Amateur after being out of the USGA loop for more than a decade. Kim was runner-up at the 2000 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Pumpkin Ridge. She played collegiately for Northwestern, then shelved her clubs to chase a career in the business world. She failed to advance to match play at last year’s Women’s Am.

Yealimi Noh is on a tear this summer, and it will continue at the Women’s Am after she easily qualified with a 4-under 66 at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland, Calif. The 16-year-old won her second California Junior Girls’ State Championship at the end of June, and will play the U.S. Girls’ Junior at Poppy Hills later this month. After her USGA starts are over, Noh will play the LPGA HanaBank Championship in South Korea on a sponsor’s exemption.

When Lauren Greenlief won the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, it gave her a two-year exemption into the Women’s Am. That exemption is gone now, but it didn’t appear to bother Greenlief, the former University of Virginia player who won the qualifier at Glenmore Country Club in Keswick, Va., with a 7-under 65.
“What I did today was to try to be aggressive,” Greenlief said. “The greens are soft, so I was pretty much just firing in at all of the pins. It was pretty rare that I had longer than 20 feet for my first putt on any hole. It was pretty consistent. It was a pretty low-stress round.”
This will be Greenlief’s sixth appearance in the Women’s Am, but she has yet to make match play.

The University of Florida’s own Addie Baggarly, a rising Gator sophomore, played her way into the field on the school’s home course – Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. Baggarly’s 1-under 69 left her tied with Kailie Vongsaga for medalist honors.
Another Gator sophomore, Lauren Waidner, claimed a spot after advancing from a six-woman playoff for the final three spots.

USC’s Allisen Corpuz and Northwestern’s Stephaniue Lau were the leading qualifiers from Shaker Hills Golf Club in Harvard, Mass. Both players fired 4-under 68, and Corpuz’s round included an eagle at the par-5 15th.
The third and final spot went to University of Richmond senior Sophie DiPetrillo, a Dover, Mass., native who days earlier had won the Virginia Women’s Amateur Stroke Play. DiPetrillo birdied four of her final five holes in the Women’s Am qualifier to climb the leaderboard and avoid a playoff. She finished with 3-under 69.

Gina Kim’s birdie on the final hole at Monroe (N.C.) Country Club boosted her to medalist honors in Women’s Am qualifying. Kim, a Chapel Hill, N.C., resident who will join the Duke roster in the fall, bogeyed her second hole then rallied. She had birdies at Nos. 4, 7, 12, 15 and 18 to finish the day. Kim already appeared in the U.S. Women’s Open this summer, where she missed the cut.
Nine players qualified out of Monroe CC, but no playoff was needed. Amanda Doherty of Brookhaven, Ga., squeaked into a three-way tie for seventh at 1-under 71 when she birdied the final two holes.

Mercer senior Payton Schanen has qualified for her second Women’s Am. It’s the second consecutive year that Schanen has advanced through a qualifier. Last year, qualifying came on the heels of winning the Georgia Women’s State Amateur and finishing in the top 5 at the Georgia Women’s Open. That merited her Georgia Women’s Player of the Year honors.
Schanen was 2 under through four holes at Chateau Elon Golf Club in Braselton, Ga., and finished the day at 4-under 67. The next closest player, Elizabeth Moon, was three shots back.

Meghan Stasi, the four-time U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion, is into the Women’s Am. Stasi put up a 3-under 69 at Hobe Sound (Fla.) Golf Club to take one of four qualifying spots up for grabs. Stasi, with five birdies, was one back of medalist Caroline Hwang, who recently finished her freshman year of high school in Orlando, Fla.

Lauren Hartlage, a standout for the University of Louisville, posted 2-under 70 at Walnut Grove Country Club in Dayton, Ohio, to win medalist honors by two shots. Earlier this summer, Hartlage won the consolation title at the Women’s Southern Amateur.
Kylie Raines took another of the six available spots with a 1-over 73 (which was good enough to help her avoid a five-woman playoff). Raines was a member of the University of Indianapolis team that won the NCAA Division II national title.

Meghan Stasi, the four-time U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion, is into the Women’s Am. Stasi put up a 3-under 69 at Hobe Sound (Fla.) Golf Club to take one of four qualifying spots up for grabs. Stasi, with five birdies, was one back of medalist Caroline Hwang, who recently finished her freshman year of high school in Orlando, Fla.

Lauren Hartlage, a standout for the University of Louisville, posted 2-under 70 at Walnut Grove Country Club in Dayton, Ohio, to win medalist honors by two shots. Earlier this summer, Hartlage won the consolation title at the Women’s Southern Amateur.
Kylie Raines took another of the six available spots with a 1-over 73 (which was good enough to help her avoid a five-woman playoff). Raines was a member of the University of Indianapolis team that won the NCAA Division II national title.
