Palmer wins his Third Iowa Senior Match Play

At Amana Colonies Golf Club, Palmer won the final match 5&4 to add to the titles he won in 2013 and 2015

AMANA, IA (June 2, 2018) - Joe Palmer of West Des Moines won his 3rd IGA Match Play Championship on Saturday afternoon at Amana Colonies Golf Club. Palmer defeated Tom Norton of Muscatine 5 & 4 in the championship match. This was the second straight year Norton, who was gunning for his first win in the event, finished as the Senior Match Play runner-up. Palmer also won titles in 2013 at Fort Dodge CC and 2015 at Veenker Memorial GC in Ames. Rob Christensen of Marshalltown is the champion of the Super Senior Match Play bracket. Christensen, who won the IGA Super-Senior Player of the Year award last year, defeated John Peters of Muscatine 4 & 2 in the final match. The win vaults Christensen into a big lead in this year's IGA Super Senior Player of the Year race, while Peters runner-up finish moved him from 11th to 2nd in the standings. Gene Elliott, who won the event the last two years, was not in the field this year.

About the Iowa Senior Match Play

Must be an active IGA Member and must have reached their 50th birthday. 18 hole qualifying round, from which the low 32 proceed the the Championship Bracket. Places 33-64 proceed to the President’s Bracket. The defending champion is exempt from the 1...
