NINETY SIX, SC (May 16, 2018) - Playing in his first SCGA Senior Championship, Rich Weston of Pawley’s Island shot a final round score of 66 for a tournament total of fourteen under par 130 to win the 2018 South Carolina Senior Championship held at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, SC.

Originally scheduled as a three day event, strong bands of rain and lightning consumed the majority of the second round forcing the continuation of the second round on Wednesday to ultimately be the final round.

Weston, who began his second round with a three shot lead over Stan Sill (Spartanburg) and Walter Todd (Laurens), continued his dominant play opening with four birdies on the first five holes. His lone mistake of the day was a double bogey on the 140-yard par three 7th hole but quickly followed up the mistake with a birdie on the eighth hole to make the turn in three under par for the round. The culmination of three additional birdies on the back nine led to a convincing final round score of 6 under par 66 for a two day total of 130.

Finishing in a tie for second place was Greenville’s Tobin Turner and the 2017 SCGA Lefthanders Champion, Stan Sill (Spartanburg). Both players finished with tournament totals of 5 under par 139. Leaderboard mainstays, Eddie Hargett (Blythewood) and Walter Todd (Laurens) finished in a tie for fourth with tournament totals of 3 under par 141.

The 2018 SCGA Senior Championship was played on the 6,341 yard Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, SC. The starting field consisted of 89 players over the age of 55.
