Denny Adkins took home the title in the Grand Master Division

SOUTHPORT, NC (May 8, 2018) - Joe Hackler closed with a final round 2-under 70 and then won a playoff over Pete Allen to capture the John Kline Super Seniors hosted by the Reserve Club At St James Plantation.

Seven shots off the pace at the start of Tuesday's final round Hackler saved his best round for last and also got some help from those in front of him. Hackler played a methodic round of golf rolling in three birdies against a single bogey with his final circle coming on the 18th hole.

Allen began the day 4-under and with a five-stroke lead after consecutive rounds of 2-under 70 only to slip up in the final round with a disappointing 5-over 77 that left him 1-over for the tournament and in a 54-hole tie with Hackler.

Despite the struggles throughout the day and following a 17th hole double-bogey Allen still had some fight in him as he birdied the 18th to force the playoff. The birdie was Allen's only of the round.

In the playoff Hackler and Allen headed to the 10th hole and with the momentum of the late rally on the side of Hackler he sealed the deal on the first extra hole.

Hackler began play on Tuesday 3-over after rounds of 73-74.

Defending champion John Armstrong and Dennis Helms shared third at 3-over while Don Russell was 4-over in fifth.

GRAND MASTER DIVISION

Things were a bit more ho-hum in the Grand Master Division as Denny Adkins closed out a three-stroke victory with a final round even-par 72. Adkins, 73-72 in the first two rounds, signed a closing round scorecard that included three birdies and three bogeys.

Danna Sutton was second at 4-over, John Casstevens was third at 6-over while Jack Vardaman and Harry Cain tied for fourth at 8-over.
