Jeff Wilson became the third player in SCGA Mid-Amateur history to win the event three or more times
Wilson finished regulation tied with Corby Segal at 4-over before the two went blow for blow in the playoff. Both players finished the three-hole aggregate playoff 2-under and then rolled in birdie putts on the fourth extra hole to push the match to a fifth extra hole. Finally on the fifth playoff hole a par from Wilson was good enough for him to join Tim Hogarth (five titles) and Mark Johnson (three titles) as the only players to win three or more SCGA Mid-Amateur titles.
Heading to the third playoff hole Wilson found himself ahead by a stroke and within comfortable par range, however Segal wasn't going to go silently as he rolled in a cross green bomb for birdie to move to 2-under, forcing Wilson to make what was know a knee buckling par putt to extend the match. We finally have a winner! They don’t want this to end! On the final hole of the 3-hole #SCGAMidAm aggregate playoff, Corby Segal (pictured) drops in a big birdie putt and Jeff Wilson saves par. We’re tied at -2. They’ll now play No. 9, sudden death, until a winner emerges. pic.twitter.com/sn1Xvavkmu

Beginning the day three back Wilson moved up the leaderboard quickly on Tuesday with a flawless three birdie 3-under 33 front nine to reach 1-over. Wilson did give the strokes back on the second nine but his even-par 72 final round was enough to get him into a playoff. Here’s the clutch par putt from Jeff Wilson to force a 4th playoff hole. pic.twitter.com/MLGpXcOAlu

Segal came from even further back, after staring five behind, he was able to put together a closing 2-under 70 to recover from a first round 6-over 78. In the final round Segal birdied five-times and bogeyed three-times. Segal birdied three in a row from Nos. 4-6 and then the 18th to ultimately earn his spot into the playoff.
First round co-leader Satch Herrmann finished third at 6-over, Ramie Sprinkling and Tim Hogarth shared fourth at 7-over while first round co-leader Mike Rowley was among those at 8-over in eighth.
ROUND ONE RECAP
On day one of the SCGA Mid-Amateur at Saticoy Country Club with the winds hollowing nobody was able to break par.
Due to the high winds and dangerous conditions just one of the two scheduled rounds were played Monday meaning first round 1-over leaders Mike Rowley and Satch Herrmann will start the final round of the now 36-hole tournament in front.
Rowley, the founder of Straight Down, started slowly with a pair of bogeys before playing the rest of the round in 1-under, capped by a final hole birdie. Hermann earned his way to the top of the leaderboard with one round remaining after bogeying four-times, birdieing twice and eagling the par-15 14th.
J.R. Warthen at 3-over is third while Danny Wax, Darren Humphrey and Jeff Wilson are sharing fourth at 4-over.
