North Team Rallies to Win the Texas Shootout

Trailing by four points heading into Sunday Singles, the North Team stormed back to beat the South Team at Maridoe Golf Club

CARROLLTON, TX (October 29, 2017) - The North Team gained 27.5 points in the Singles Matches to storm back and win the Texas Shootout at Maridoe Golf Club.

Trailing by four points, the North Team needed to make a comeback and they did just that early on. Entering the Singles Matches after an early morning forfeit, the North Team only trailed the South by one point.

Josh Irving led for the North Team as the first to tee it up and he battled through 17 holes to earn all three points for the North. Irving’s sweep kept his record for the weekend unblemished as he won nine of a total nine points available in his matches.

Tim Hamm got the South Team back on the winning side of things when he managed to take two points from Rob Couture.

Will Osborne didn’t let the North Team comeback fizzle out as he grabbed all three points from his match as well over Bryant Lach.

The first Senior Match of the day featured both Team Captains. John Pierce brought the match all the way to the eighteenth hole but it was Lewis Stephenson and the North Side that got all three points.

Chris Hartenstein was part of the second Senior Match out and was able to take two points for the South side from Jerry Hudgins despite playing all eighteen holes.

Chuck Palmer made the clinching point for the North Team when he came back and defeated John McClure on the eighteenth hole in their match, taking two of a possible three points.

Dave Davis for the North Team and Alan Hill for the South Team each earned a point and a half for their respective sides, halving the final Senior Singles Match of the day.

The North Team continued their dominance in Singles Matches with Brad Gibson winning all three points, as well as Scott Volpitto coming from behind to win the back nine and overall matches to claim two points.

Playing as opponents for the third straight match, Kevin Doskocil edged Ed Sanchez to gain two points for the North Team.

Finally, Gant Bills finished off the Singles Matches the same way they got started by grabbing all three points.

At the end of the day, the North Team grabbed 27.5 points to the South’s 8.5 points to claim the 2017 Texas Shootout, 43.5 to 28.5.
