Four Share AJGA Junior Players Day One Lead

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL (September 1, 2017) - After the first round of The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, Garrett Barber of Stuart, Florida, Travis Vick of Houston, Ricky Castillo of Yorba Linda, California, and William Mouw of Chino, California, are tied for the lead at 3-under-par 69.
The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf is celebrating its 10th anniversary on the AJGA schedule. Seventy-eight players from 22 countries are competing on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
The four leaders are all seeking their first AJGA Invitational win and combined for 18 birdies and one eagle. Verbally committed to LSU, Barber is competing in the tournament for the third year. Vick started his day off well with an eagle on No. 2. and is playing at TPC Sawgrass for the first time.
Castillo, a Rolex Junior All-American, birdied three of his first four holes. The junior is verbally committed to the University of Florida. Mouw is competing in his first AJGA Invitational after winning the 2017 Western Junior Championship.
After The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, Barber and Mouw will represent the United States in the inaugural Junior Presidents Cup, another AJGA and PGA TOUR tournament collaboration.
Bryan Wiyang Teoh of (Malaysia) Jupiter, Florida, and Scott Roden of Dallas, Texas, round out the top five at 2-under-par 70.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey’s destruction, the AJGA is pledging $10 per birdie this week at TPC Sawgrass, thanks to support from two Houston-area AJGA tournaments and tournament chairmen: the Insperity Invitational / Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship presented by Callaway Golf (Bob Lewis and Bob Edwards) and the CB&I / Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods (Chris Dernick and committee). TaylorMade-adidas Golf will also be pledging $10 per birdie at The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf.
During the first round, players posted 222 birdies, raising $4,440 for the American Red Cross.
Second-round tee times for The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf will run from 8:10 – 10:10 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
About the Junior Players

One of the AJGA series of tournaments that require an invitation to participate. Format is 54 holes of stroke play.
