ASHEBORO,, NC (August 10, 2017) - Sasha Hayes of Winston Salem won the 13th Dogwood State Junior Girls' Championship in dominating fashion. She finished the day at two-over-par, four-over-par, 220 overall, seven strokes ahead of the runner-up Sophie Holland of Cornelius. Her seven stroke margin of victory is the second largest in the tournaments' existence, just two strokes behind Callista Rice, who won by nine strokes in 2014.

Hayes was also two strokes of tying the tournament scoring record of 218 set by both Jennifer Chang and Rice. "I got more confident as I went on," said Hayes about her play over the three-day championship. "I just started sinking more putts and getting closer to the pin."

Hayes greatest strength was her consistency over the championship, never posting a round higher than two-over-par. "I really never had any big mistakes. I was in all of the fairways and greens in regulation."

For Hayes, she secured her first CGA championship with the victory. "This tournament was a great experience for me. I lost in a playoff at the CGA 15 and under championship, so I am very happy to win this one."

Hayes will now represent the Carolinas at next years' Mid-Atlantic Junior Challenge Matches.

The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of Pinewood Country Club for their hospitality in hosting the 13th Dogwood State Junior Girls' Championship. Special gratitude is extended to head golf professional Brandon Turner, assistant golf professional Brandon Pierce, and golf course superintendent Steve Richau.
