For the second year in a row an amateur has won the Delaware Open
OCEAN VIEW, DE (August 8, 2017) - For the second year in a row an amateur has won the Delaware Open. After Peter Barron won the title a year ago it was Walter Egloff's turn.
Playing at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club, Egloff ended regulation tied with professional Chris Krueger at 8-under before claiming the title with a birdie on the 3rd extra hole.
Egloff, 2-under and four back at the start of the day, charged hard on Tuesday just make the playoff as he fired a final round 6-under 66. Egloff did give strokes back with bogeys on Nos. 9 and 14 but birdies on Nos. 11, 12, 16 and 18 were enough to put him into the playoff.
Krueger, who opened with a 6-under 66 shot a 2-under 70 in the second round. Amateur Bryce Young was third at 7-under, Chris Wisler finished fourth at 4-under while in a tie for fifth at 3-under were amateurs Dylan Chessher and Jeff Whiteside.
