Pair of 65's power North Carolina Duo to Cardinal Am lead

GREENSBORO, NC (July 28, 2017) - With matching 5-under 65s in the opening round, a pair of North Carolina natives –Ty Palmer and Jose Montano – co-lead the Cardinal Amateur at Sedgefield Country Club’s Dye Course.
Palmer, a native of Kernersville, NC carded six birdies on the day; his lone bogey came on the 188-yard par 3 16th hole.
Meanwhile, Montano, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, had the lone eagle of the day on the 15th hole, a 576-yard par 5. With a -4 under 66, Wake Forest’s Eric Bae is one shot back.
Within striking distance are a trio of players, who trail by three at -2 under (Bryce Hendrix, Thomas Lilly, and Luis Ruiz).
Founded in 1978, the competition is an integral part of the journey to the PGA, Senior PGA and Nationwide tours; former champions include William McGirt and Zach Sucher. The field consists of 78 contestants chosen among college level and mid - amateurs.

Jay Sigel, a winner on the senior tour, has been
quoted as saying that the Cardinal Am is one of
the finest amateur tournaments in the country
and one which he wishes he had won during his
amateur career.
