Cox and Hagood Surge Ahead at Southern Junior

ALEXANDER CITY, AL (June 14, 2017) - With a putt for eagle on the 17th hole, Kyle Cox of Carrollton, Texas, eked out a one-shot lead over local talent, Ethan Hagood of Birmingham during the second round of the Southern Junior Championship at Willow Point Golf & Country Club in Alexander City, Alabama.
Cox (66-68-134), a 17-year-old three-time District Champion and AJGA Junior All-Star, posted six birdies and an eagle to finish the 2nd Round at 10-under par. Willow Point G&CC was re-designed in 2002 by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, who (along with Ron Whitten) also designed Erin Hills, the site of the U.S. Open Championship, where the SGA’s Amateur of the Month (March), Sahith Theegala is competing this week.

Blake Burnette of Blairsville, GA, had his first Hole-in-One on the 174-yard Hole-13.Austin Coggin of Vestavia Hills, AL, finished his round four back.The cut was at +4 and 67 players will be in the field for the Final Round on Thursday.
