Yash Majmudar takes the Sizzler Amateur by One

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (June 13, 2017) - Thanks to some early birdies Yash Majmudar finished 5-under and as the one-stroke winner of the inaugural Sizzler Amateur hosted by Troon North Golf Club.

Tied for the lead at the start of the final round the UNLV sophomore birdied the 2nd and 4th holes to reach 6-under before holding on throughout the remainder of the day.

Majmudar did drop shots on the 6th and 13th holes but his third birdie of the day on the 11th proved to be the difference maker.

Arizona sophomore David Laskin began the day tied for the lead and he birdied early on the 2nd hole to reach 5-under before three bogeys dropped him back to 2-under with five holes remaining. Looking to make a late run Laskin birdied the 15th and 17th holes to reach 4-under but he was unable to birdie the last and force a playoff.

Blake Hathcoat took third at 2-under while Preston Smith, Marty Sanchez and Jino Sohn shared fourth at 1-under.

ROUND TWO RECAP

With one round remaining at the Sizzler Amateur hosted by Troon North Golf Club Yash Majmudar and David Laskin share the lead at 4-under.

Majmudar was part of the lead following the first round and on Monday he was able to maintain his spot atop the leaderboard with his second consecutive 2-under 69. During the second round Majmudar overcame a rocky 3-over 38 frontside that included a bogey and two double-bogeys by birdieing five holes on the second nine.

The UNLV sophomores first circle on the side came on the 11th with additional birdies falling on the 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes.

Co-leader David Laskin moved into a share of the lead with a 3-under 68. Laskin had an adventuresome round with an eagle on the par-5 11th, five birdies and four bogeys. At one point Laskin, a sophomore for Arizona, birdied three-times in a row on Nos. 4-6.

First round co-leader Easton Paxton is one shot back in second place, Jino Sohn is 1-under and in forth while Blake Wagoner is fifth at even-par.

Wagoner moved into the top-five with the round of the tournament, a 5-under 66.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Yash Majmudar of Las Vegas and Easton Paxton of Riverton, Wyoming, shot impressive 2-under 69s in windy conditions at Troon North Golf Club’s 7,009 yard par-71 Pinnacle course. David Laskin of Elk Grove, California, is one back at 70.

Majmudar, a member of the UNLV golf team had five birdies, a double bogey, and one bogey. Paxton, a freshman-to-be at NC State, had five birdies and 2 bogeys. Laskin, who will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Arizona is one shot back at 70.

The inaugural Sizzler Amateur is being hosted at Troon North Golf Club on the Pinnacle Course. The Pinnacle at Troon North is ranked as one of the premier golf courses in Arizona and the United States. Troon North sits at approximately 2,500 feet above sea level. Mild temperatures in the low 90s with winds of 15-20 mph challenged the field most of the day. Round 2 of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 8:09 am on Monday, June 12. First played in 2017. Open to male amateur golfers who with a handicap of 3.0 or less, with several categories of exemptions based on performance in college and amateur events. Format is 54-holes of stroke play with no cut

The Sizzler is a partner tournament to the Southwestern Amateur. Players are encouraged to play in both events.
