Spain's Carlos de Corral closed with the round of the tournament on Saturday to win the European Mid-Amateur
MADRID, Spain (June 10, 2017) - Spain's Carlos de Corral closed with the round of the tournament on Saturday to win the European Mid-Amateur hosted by R.C. Puerta de Hierro.
De Corral started the final round 5-over before closing with a 2-under 70 that saw the now seven year reinstated amateur finish 3-over and as the three-stroke winner.
"It has been my goal for a long time," said de Corral to the European Golf Association. "I announced it last year, when I was playing only once every two months, but since then I prepared for winning this title."
De Corral began his day in grand style with a birdie on No. 1 and then he added his second of the round on the 3rd. Overall de Corral birded five-times and bogeyed twice.
Erik Persson and 2015 winner Richard Heath shared second at 6-over, Santiago Vega de Seoane took third at 7-over while Sébastien Hufschmid was fifth at 8-over.
About the European Mid-Amateur

The premier mid-amateur championship in Continental Europe, conducted by the European Golf Association, which is comprised of 38 member countries. Mid-amateur defined as ages 35 and over. 54 hole stroke play format.
