Oregon’s Xiong wins Phil Mickelson Outstanding Fr. Award

Xiong tied for medalist honors in his third start at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate
SUGAR GROVE, IL (May 31, 2017) - Oregon’s Norman Xiong has been named recipient of the Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award.
Xiong joined the Duck lineup for the spring season after graduating high school early. He made an immediate impact for Oregon. Xiong tied for medalist honors in his third start at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. He recorded seven top 10 finishes and only placed outside the top 20 once in 10 events. Xiong was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, named to the All-Pac-12 First Team, Pac-12 All-Freshman Team, and earned a spot on the 2017 United States Arnold Palmer Cup team.
John Augenstein of Vanderbilt, Baylor’s Cooper Dossey, Viktor Hovland of Oklahoma State, and Clemson’s Doc Redman joined Xiong on the All-Freshmen Team.
