Amateurs took the two alternate spots, but it was professional Horacio Leon from Chile via Jupiter, FL who beat the field by six. Why was Leon in Alaska, so far from home? Perhaps it was because he had just medaled at the Mackenzie (Canadian) Tour Qualifying at nearby(?) Courtenay, B.C., Canada.
