NORTH PLAINS, OR (May 11, 2017) - Sam Spicher (Beaverton, Ore.) and Nettie Morrison (Bend, Ore.) won titles at the 12th Oregon Super Senior Championship, held May 10-11 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club – Ghost Creek in North Plains, Ore.

The event included 36 holes of stroke play competition, with separate flights for both men and women based on age.

Spicher held a three-shot lead after Wednesday’s first round after he fired a 2-under par 69. However, the change in weather greatly influenced the scores on Thursday. Spicher shot an 83 (+12) in the second and final round, but it was enough to hold off both Tom Heckler (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Stephen Nelson (Salem, Ore.) by two shots. Spicher finished at 152 (+10) for the championship, as Heckler and Nelson tied for second at 154 (+12).

Because Spicher won the overall title, Heckler and Nelson tied for the win in the Jack Nicklaus Flight. Gay Davis (Portland, Ore.) won the Arnold Palmer Flight after scores of 74-82 – 156 (+14), while Gary Conti (Tigard, Ore.) won the Byron Nelson Flight, shooting 81-83 – 164 (+22).

Morrison successfully defended her title from last year, winning by five shots. She began the day two shots back of Mary Jacobs (Portland, Ore.), but held steady during Thursday’s second round. Her two-day total of 87-90 – 177 (+35) saw her win her second Super Senior title in as many years. Cindy Anderson (Eugene, Ore.) finished five shots back and in second place, shooting 90-92 – 182 (+40). Anderson also won the Babe Zaharias Flight, since Morrison won the overall title.

Jacobs, the first round leader, finished in third overall and won the Patty Berg Flight, shooting 85-98 – 183 (+41).
