Finishing alone in second place was two-time defending Champion Todd Hendley at 215

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (May 8, 2017) - After a final round of 69 and a tournament total of four under par 212, Geno Berchiatti is the 2017 South Carolina Senior Champion. Starting the day at Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course two shots behind leader Walter Todd and playing in the final group, Berchiatti got off to a rocky start making bogey on the short par three 2nd hole. That would be his only blemish on the card as the Greenville resident finished the front nine with all pars and two birdies to make the turn at one under par, three shots behind Todd Hendley who turned at 32. After a bogey by Hendley on the par three 12th and a birdie by Berchiatti on the par five 13th, the 56-year-old found himself only one shot behind. Berchiatti said the turning point of the tournament came on the 415 yard par four 15th as both Hendley and Todd three putted for bogey and Berchiatti made a 15-foot putt for par. Two three putts on holes 17 and 18 by Hendley left Berchiatti with a chance to cap a three-shot victory with a birdie on the finishing hole. This is the first SCGA Major Championship for Berchiatti. Finishing alone in second place was two-time defending Champion Todd Hendley at 215. Second round leader, Walter Todd, finished in third place with a score of even par 216.
