SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 23, 2017) - Texas took the lead on Saturday and then took care of business Sunday as they won the Big 12 Women's Championship at The Dominion Country Club.
Led by runner-up Emilee Hoffman the Longhorns finished 21-over and as the seven-stroke victors over Iowa State. The Cyclones completed the week 28-over and in front of third Texas Tech (+30), defending champion Oklahoma State (+33) was fifth and Baylor (+36) placed fifth.
Hoffman completed her week 1-over after saving her best round of the tournament for the final round. On Sunday Hoffman carded a 1-under 71 with her two birdies coming on the 4th and 16th holes.
36-hole individual leader Sophia Schubert also recorded a top-five showing with a shared fifth performance at 4-over while Haley Mills tied for 12th at 8-over.
In the medalist race Dylan Kim of Baylor took home the title. Kim, 2-under, was the only player to finish in red figures.
Kim started her week nicely with a 1-over 71 but fell three-strokes off the lead after a second round 3-over 75. However, the deficit didn't faze Kim and on Sunday she put together the round of the tournament, a 4-under 68 to rally to the title.
The redshirt sophomore came storming out of the gates with 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th hole birdies that allowed her to turn in flawless 4-under 32.
On the back nine Kim cooled off carding a birdie and a bogey.
Behind the second place Hoffman were Chayanit Wangmahaporn (Iowa State) and Kenzie Neisen (Oklahoma State) in third at 3-over while Schubert and Fiona Liddell (Baylor) shared fifth with a 4-over showing.
