Chris Ward was lifted to the title by a birdie on the 18th hole at the Fairmont Southampton Turtle Hill Golf Club

SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda (March 19, 2017) -- With a birdie on the final hole former Texas Tech standout and 2010 Texas Amateur winner Chris Ward took home the title at the 8th Grey Goose World Par-3 Championship. During 36-holes of play over the weekend at Fairmont Southampton Turtle Hill Golf Club Ward put together rounds of 51-52 to finish 5-under and one shot in front of Jimmy Lytle. In the first round on the par-54 layout Ward birdied six-times against just three bogeys before carding five more birdies and just three bogeys in the second round. Ward was 5-under after a birdie on the 11th hole but he slipped up with 14th and 16th hole bogeys only to rebound with the winning birdie on the final hole. Jimmy Lytle made a hard charge in the final round with a 4-under 50 but following an 11th hole birdie he parred his way to the house and settled for a 4-under showing. Oliver Tubb was one shot further back in third at 3-under while Tom Gillis, Trish Johnson, David Morland IV and Michael Murray shared fourth at 1-under. First round leader Chip Beck struggled on Sunday and was forced to settle for a even-par weekend and a shared eighth place finish. Beck is a four-time PGA Tour winner and three-time Ryder Cup team member. The field this weekend also included three amateur divisions. In the Men's Division Spencer Wideman won the title by five shots, Tariqah Walikraam ran away with the Women's Division to capture the division by 20-strokes and in the Senior Division it was Craig Christensen winning by 11-shots. -Editors Note: Information provided by Tom Jaronski
