LEAGUE CITY, TX (March 18, 2017) -- Broc Haymon carded a personal best 9-under par 63 to take a commanding seven shot lead heading into the final round of the Texas South Mid-Amateur presented by Impact Precision Golf. Haymon navigated the England-Scotland Courses at Magnolia Creek Golf Club with precision and accuracy to reach 10-under par 134 after two rounds.

Haymon, of Pearland, was able to record 11 birdies during his second round in calmer conditions after the wind gusts players fought in the opening round. Haymon strung together four straight birdies beginning on par four second hole. A bogey hiccup on the par four seventh hole was quickly covered with a birdie on the par five ninth hole to make the turn at 4-under par 32. Haymon continued his hot play on the second nine with six birdies, two pars and a lone back nine birdie on the par four 15th hole en route to a 31 finish.

“You dream about having a round like this. Once I had my fourth birdie in the first five holes, I did my best to not think about going low and just staying out of my own way. You try to put each hole behind you and just focus on the next shot” said the 2016 Houston City Amateur Champion Haymon.

Haymon will carry a seven shot lead over Spring’s Randy Lance, Chris Causey and Trevor Sauntry, both of Houston. The trio sits at 3-under par for two rounds.

Lance, winner of the South Mid-Amateur at Magnolia Creek in 2010, posted the second lowest round of the tournament to this point with a 5-under par 67 during Saturday’s play. Lance was bogey free with five birdies in his second round and currently leads the Mid-Master recognition (players 40 years of age and older). Sauntry, leader after round one, posted an even par 72. Causey, tied for fifth place after day one posted a 3-under par 69 in his second round.

Houston’s Scott Smith is alone in fifth place heading into the final round after his second round 3-under par 69. Smith’s two-day total for the South Mid-Amateur currently stands at 2-under par 142 and one shot off of Lance in the Mid-Master.

Tomorrow’s final round will begin with tee times starting at 8:00 AM off of holes #1 & #10, again off of the England and Scotland Courses at Magnolia Creek. Our final group consisting of Haymon, Causey and Sauntry will begin their round at 9:30 AM off of hole #1.
