Jun Ho Won completes Hawaii State Amateur Victory

AIEA, HI (March 19, 2017) -- Working with a six-stroke lead to begin the Hawaii State Amateur final round Jun Ho Won simply stayed in his lane and cruised to the victory at Pearl Country Club.

On Sunday Ho Won played steady even-par 72 golf to remain at 13-under, which put the final advantage at the same six-strokes that it was to begin the round. Ho Won birdied the opening hole and then did sway a little bit with bogeys on the next two holes before getting his day back on track with an 8th hole birdie.

Overall in the final round Ho Won birdied three-times and bogeyed three-times.

First round leader Zackary Kaneshiro was level par in the final round as well and finished as the runner-up at 7-under.

The only other player under-par for the tournament was defending champion Kyle Suppa who finished the week 1-under and in third place. Davis Lee and Tyler Ota shared fourth at 2-over.

In the Mid-Amateur Division Nick Ushijima completed his run to the title while Kyung Eun Lee won the Women's Division.

Of Note: The winner of the Hawaii State Amateur receives an invitation to play in the 2017 Pacific Coast Amateur at Chambers Bay.

ROUND THREE RECAP

A tight race has turned into runaway for Jun Ho Won at the Hawaii State Amateur being hosted by the Pearl Country Club.

Leading by one at the start of the third round, Ho Won kept the peddle to the mettle as he extended his advantage to six-strokes with a second consecutive 4-under 68.

Ho Won, 13-under, had his struggles during Saturday's round with a double-bogey and two bogeys but he was more than able to overcome the slip ups with six birdies and an eagle on the par-4 14th.

First round leader Zackary Kaneshiro dropped back a stroke with a 1-over 73 and at 7-under he is in second place and the only other player under-par.

Davis Lee is fourth at even-par, Justin Arcano and defending champion Kyle Suppa share fourth with 2-over tallies.

In the Mid-Amateur Division Nick Ushijima is the pace setter by a shot while in the Women's Division Kyung Eun Lee leads by eight shots.

Two of the divisions went final on Saturday with Mikio Shimura winning the Senior Division and Mira Han the Women's Senior Division.

ROUND TWO RECAP

By way of a 4-under 68 Jun Ho Won has moved into the 36-hole lead at the Hawaii State Amateur being hosted by the Pearl Country Club.

Sitting at 9-under, Ho Won, will carry a one shot lead into Saturday's third round over first round leader Zackary Kaneshiro who shot a 2-under 70 Friday. Kaneshiro is now 8-under.

Ho Won birdied seven-times during his Friday round and bogeyed three-times. The birdies for Ho Won came on Nos. 1, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16 and 17.

Davis Lee is a distant third at 2-under while Andrew Chin, Matthew Ma and Tyler Ota are an even more distant shared fourth at 1-over. Defending champion is 2-over and tied for seventh.

In the four other divisions this weekend at Pearl Country Club Nick Ushijima leads the Mid-Amateur Division, Mikio Shimura paces the Senior Division, Kyung Eun Lee leads the Women's Amateur and Mira Han paces the Senior Women's Division.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Zackary Kaneshiro fired a 6-under 66 on Thursday and he is the first round leader of the Hawaii State Amateur being hosted by the Pearl Country Club.

Kaneshiro, leading by by a shot, played a flawless round of golf with three birdies coming on each side. The birdies for Kaneshiro came on the 4th, 5th, 7th, 12th, 15th and 17th holes.

Jun Ho Won is in second place at 5-under, Davis Lee is third at 3-under and Justin Arcano; Robert Kim share fourth at 2-under.

Defending champion Kyle Suppa is currently tied for 11th after a 1-over 73 in the first round.

In the four other divisions this weekend at Pearl Country Club Nick Ushijima leads the Mid-Amateur Division, Kyung Eun Lee holds a comfortable lead in the Women's Division, Uta Mclin leads the Women's Senior Division while Jonathan Ota, Mike Kawate and Mikio Shimura all share the Senior Men's Division lead.
