It wasn't an easy final day but David Richards was able to hold on

DALLAS, TX (March 5, 2017) -- The final round of the TXGA Medalist North #2 was a struggle but David Richards was able to hold on for a three-stroke victory. Beginning the day at The Golf Club of Dallas at even-par, Richards shot a final round 8-over 78 but with the rest of the field struggling as well he was able to hold on for the victory. Richards only birdied once, on the 17th hole but he was still able to stave off the rest of the field. Ted Watrip at 11-over was second, Kevin Doskocil was third at 12-over while three others shared fourth at 13-over. In the Senior Division Bill Ashley sprinted to an 11-stroke victory. Ashely led wire-to-wire and posted a 7-under weekend tally. Following a first round 3-under 67, Ashley fired a Sunday 4-under 66 that included seven birdies and three bogeys. Henry Coffman (+4) was second, Brad Kropp (+7) finished third, 2016 Carlton Wood Senior winner Lewis Stephenson (+8) was fourth while Doug Jones-Hopton (+9) earned a fifth place showing. ROUND ONE RECAP David Richards took the TXGA Medalist North #2 day one lead with an even-par 70 at The Golf Club of Dallas. Richards poured in two birdies and two bogeys during Saturday's opening round. The birdies for Richards came late on the 15th and 18th holes. Jordan Woolf is in second place at 1-over, Kevin Doskocil will begin the final round in third at 2-over while three others at 6-over are in fourth. In the Senior Division Bill Ashley turned in a 3-under 67 and as the only player under-par he leads the Senior Division by four shots. Ashley will try to cap off his weekend with a victory on Sunday. It was a bit of an unconventional round for Ashley as he quickly fell to 2-over with a 4th hole double-bogey before getting back to even on the ensuing hole with an eagle on the par-4 4th. Ashley then went onto card birdies on the 10th, 14th and 16th holes. Doug Jones-Hopton is 1-over and in second place while 2016 Carlton Woods Senior winner Lewis Stephenson, Henry Coffman and Brad Kropp share third at 2-over.
