New Zealand Sr: Brent Peterson wins title

On the strength of consecutive 4-under 67's Brent Peterson surged to the title at Ohope International Golf Club
OHOPE, New Zealand (February 11, 2017) -- With a second consecutive 4-under 67 Brent Peterson ran away from the rest of the field and won the New Zealand Senior Amateur.
Peterson, 7 under for the week, started slowly on Saturday and he was 1 over through seven holes before playing flawless five birdie golf the rest of the way. Down the stretch Peterson put an exclamation on his round with three birdies from Nos. 14-17.
Runner-up Andries Cloete at 1 under was the only other player in red figures, John Batley was 1 over in third while Kym Olsen and Michael Barltrop shared fourth at 2 over.
ROUND TWO RECAP
On the strength of a second round bogey-free 4-under 67 Brent Peterson has moved into the lead at the New Zealand Senior Amateur. Peterson, 3 under through 36-holes, will carry a one shot lead into the final round over Andries Cloete at Ohope International Golf Club.
Peterson started his run with a birdie on No. 1 and a second bird on the 7th hole. After turning in 2-under 34 Peterson put together a string of pars prior to carding an eagle on the par-5 13th.
Andries Cloete moved into second place with a 3-under 68 that pushed him to 2 under. John Batley is in third place at 2 under while Barry Tippett and Michael Barltrop are sharing fourth at even-par.
ROUND ONE RECAP
A trio of players are pacing the New Zealand Senior Amateur after the first round. The lead group all shot even-par 71's and includes Bruce Middlemiss, Michael Barltrop and Craig Newman.
Middlemiss reached the lead with a two birdie, two bogey day with his circles coming on the 9th and 11th holes. For Barltrop, he was able to overcome a double-bogey and a bogey with three birdies to earn his share of the lead. The final member of the lead group is Newman and he offset four bogeys with four birdies.
Despite holding the lead the advantage is a narrow one for the three leaders at Ohope International Golf Club. A remarkable nine players are tied for fourth at 1 over while an additional four players are 2 over and sharing 13th.
