Wes Butterfus needed extra holes but in the end he was able to pull out the title at the Coral Canyon Amateur
WASHINGTON, UT (January 14, 2017) --Wes Butterfus needed extra holes but in the end he was able to pull out the title at the Coral Canyon Amateur. Playing at Coral Canyon Golf Course Butterfus finished regulation tied with JT Timmons at 1-under before winning with a par on the first playoff hole.
Butterfus reached 1-under with rounds of 73-70. During his 2-under final round Butterfus got things started with an eagle on the par-5 1st hole but didn't truly find his grove until midway through the round. Following the eagle Butterfus bogeyed three of his next six holes before settling in and playing 3-under golf the rest of the way. His final birdie in regulation came on the final hole as Buitterfus saved some of his best play for late in the day.
Teeing off of No. 2 in the shotgun final round, Simmons struggled for much of the day and with four holes left he was seemingly out of the mix at 3-over. However, just when all seemed lost Simmons found an extra gear with birdies on the 16th and 18th holes and then an eagle on his final hole, the par-5 1st to rally late to 1-under and a share of the lead.
Mitchell Schow Jr. (E) was third, Nathan Wunderli (+1) was fourth while Caden Hamill (+2) and Gentry Hicks (+2) shared fifth.
In the First Flight Dale Schantzenbach captured the tile and in the Senior Division is was the 4-under Kirk Siddens taking home the championship.
