Justo and J.R. Warthen got off to a quick start and held on for a one-shot win

LOMPOC, Calif. (November 8, 2016) -- Brothers Justo and J.R. Warthen came from one-shot behind to take capture the SCGA Four-Ball Tuesday at La Pruisma Golf Course. The Warthen brothers were paired with first round leaders Torey Edwards and Brett Parker and took control quickly with an opening nine of 4-under 32. Edwards and Parker struggled with an even-par front nine but were able to make birdies on holes 11, 12 and 14 to cut the deficit to one shot after 15 holes. The brothers stayed steady, however, and were able to par each of the the difficult finishing holes to maintain their one-shot advantage. John Pate and partner Jeff fired an impressive 6-under 66 to climb into a tie for third at 135 with SCGA verterns Tim Hogarth and Corby Segal. ROUND ONE STORY Torey Edwards and Bret Parker fired a bogey-free 7-under 65 to take the opening lead at the SCGA Four-Ball. Playing the difficult La Purisma Golf Course, Edwards and Parker tallied seven birdies, four of which came on a stretch of five holes from 11 to 15. The pair will take a one-shot advantage into the final round over three teams that are tied for 2nd. One such team includes this year's SCGA Match Play and Kelly Cup champion Tim Hogarth and partner Corby Segal who shot a bogey-free 66 that included three consecutive birdies on holes 10 through 12. Also lurking just one shot back are the partnerships of Satch Herrman and Eric Lindquist along with J.R. and Justo Warthen. Herman/ Lindquist opened with a 1-under 35 before firing off four straight birdies starting on hole 11 for a closing 31. Defending champions Bowen Osborn and Danny Wax opened with a 2-under 70 and will have a lot of ground to make up in what will be an exciting final round Tuesday.
