Royal Oaks Country Club won their third Oregon Men's Team Championship since 2012

BANDON, OR (October 29, 2016) – In blustery conditions at the Bandon Trails Course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Royal Oaks Country Club won their third Oregon Men’s Team Championship since 2012 by eight strokes over second place Riverside Golf Country Club.

The 89th playing of the Championship, a 36-hole stroke play event in which the top three scores on each four-person team count toward the team’s daily total, was played on Bandon Dunes’ Old Macdonald Course on the first day and the Bandon Trails Course on the second day.

Royal Oaks’ team of Gaston de La Torre (La Center, Wash.), Jake O’Neal (Vancouver, Wash.), Jonathan Romano (Vancouver, Wash.), and William Snow (Vancouver, Wash.) combined for a 12-over par 225 on the first day of action on the Old Macdonald Course, which trailed day one leader Eastmoreland Golf Club by six shots.

However, the team tore up the Bandon Trails Course for a 2-under par 211, firing the only under-par team total of the event on the second day. Their 10- over par 436 total earned the squad the comeback win.

Royal Oaks was led by Snow, whose individual one- over par 143 total earned him medalist honors by one- stroke over Arrowhead Golf Club’s Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.). Snow posted a 5-over par 76 on the Old Macdonald Course followed by a sizzling 4-under par 67 on the Bandon Trails Course in winning the individual competition.

Royal Oak’s team win was aided by De La Torre’s 8- over par 150 (74-76), O’Neal’s 8-over par 150 (82-68), and Jonathan Romano’s 15-over par 157 (75-82). Riverside Golf & Country Club claimed second place in the team competition with a 18-over par 444 total and Rose City Golf Club earned third place, and low-public course honors, at 20-over 446.
