Tom Trakoval held onto to win by a stroke over Jay Sessa at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club

OLD WESTBURY, NY (October 14, 2016) -- For the third straight year Tom Trakoval has won the Long Island Senior Amateur. Trakoval combined scores of 73-78 to finish 7-over and one shot in front of runner-up Jay Sessa at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club. In the first round Trakoval was steady much of the day carding three birdies and two unfortunate double-bogeys. Friday was more difficult but despite just one birdie, which came on the 3rd hole Trakoval was able to hold on. Sessa began the day two-strokes back and was tied for the lead until he double-bogeyed the final hole to finish 8-over. For the weekend Sessa posted scores of 75-77. Sessa reached 6-over after an 11th hole birdie, his only of the day. David Prowler and Marc C. Coleman were 9-over and tied for third, Don Enga placed fourth at 11-over while Peter Van Ingen at 15-over was fifth. ROUND ONE RECAP Tom Trakoval posted a 1-over 73 in the first round of the Long Island Senior Amateur to take a one shot lead. Trakoval will now look to seal the deal on his third straight Senior Amateur title during Friday's final round at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club. Don Enga is in second place after a 2-over 74, Jay Sessa and Richard Schmidt are both tied third after 3-over 75's while Ken Freedman and Marc C. Coleman are sharing fifth at 4-over. The final group in Friday's round will tee off at 9:40 a.m. EST and it will include Tom Trakoval and Don Enga. Just 12 players made the cut and advanced to Friday play.
