Pat O’Donnell and Anita Wicks Medal at Oregon Men's and Women's Senior Amateur

GLENEDEN BEACH, OR (September 27, 2016) -- Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) and Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore.) earned stroke play medalist honors in their respective divisions at the 33rd Oregon Senior Amateur Championship, held this week at Salishan Golf Links in Gleneden Beach, Ore.

With stroke play qualifying finished, both divisions will advance to match play. The top 32 players in the men’s field will play in the Championship bracket, with round of 32 and round of 16 matches on Tuesday. The remaining players will compete in the first flight bracket.

The Women’s Championship will finish tomorrow, with the one semifinal match commencing at 8 AM tomorrow morning. The championship match will take place at 1:50 PM.

O’Donnell, the champion in this event the past two years, breezed by the rest of the men’s field on Monday, firing a 4-under par 67 to earn stroke play medalist honors and the No. 1 seed by three shots, despite a double bogey on the 18th hole.

Mike Gleason (Camas, Wash.) shot a 1-under par 70, the only other player under par. Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) and Vernon Pellman III (Vancouver, Wash.) tied for third in stroke play qualifying, both shooting 1-over par 72s.

In the Women’s Championship, Wicks earned medalist honors and a bye into the Women’s Championship match tomorrow by shooting an impressive round of 72 (+1) on Monday. Marcia Fisher (Canby, Ore.) is the second seed, firing a 74 (+3), and defending champion Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore.) is the third seed after shooting a 5-over par 76.

ABOUT THE Oregon Senior Amateur

Entries are open to male and female amateur golfers 50 years of age or older with USGA Handicap Indexes of 18.1 or less and who are members in good standing of an OGA member club. The field will be limited to the lowest 96 qualified men. The defending champion and 31 finishers from the 18-hole stroke play qualifier will advance to the single elimination Championship flight match play portion of the competition, with the remaining entrants placed in single elimination match play flights according to score. There will be NO age bracket flights.
