Just three players are under-par after the two days at Stafford Country Club

STAFFORD, NY (September 24, 2016) -- Following the second day of the New York State Mid-Amateur Adam Condello and Jim Scorse are 3-under and tied atop the leaderboard. First round co-leader Kyle Downey is 1-under and in a tie for third. Downey is the only other player under-par at Stafford Country Club. On Saturday Condello was able to recover from a 2-over 74 first round that included two late double-bogeys, to fire a 5-under 67. Birdies for Condello came on Nos. 5-7 to bring him back to even-par for the weekend after he dropped to 3-over with an opening bogey. Fueled by his front nine momentum Condello went on to birdie the 10th, 13th, 15th and 18th holes. Scorse moved to the the front of the pack with a 3-under 69 in the second round. On the day Scorse birdied five and bogeyed one. Scorse birdied three of the first eight holes he played before rolling in his final bird of the round on the 13th. Downey, in second place, dropped three-strokes during his second round with 3-over 75. In fourth place it is the duo of Colby Anderson, who held a share of the first round lead, and Ken Starkweather at even-par. Four players are tied for sixth at 1-over, including first round co-leader Jake Katz. ROUND ONE RECAP During the first day of play at Stafford Country Club a trio of players fired 4-under 68's to tie for the New York State Mid-Amateur lead. The trio is comprised of Jake Katz, Kyle Downey and Colby Anderson. They will carry a one-stroke lead into Saturday's second round. During the first round Katz birdied seven holes and bogeyed three. On the front nine Katz birdied three of five holes from Nos. 3-7. Now on the backside Katz again birdied three of five holes, this time if was from Nos. 11-15. Katz capped his round off with a birdie on the final hole. Kyle Downey began his round on the 10th hole and stumbled on two of his first three holes with bogeys. He was then able to rebound with birdies on holes 13-15 and then another on No. 18 to turn in 2-under 34. On his final nine Downey carded three more birdies and a bogey. Colby Anderson had the steadiest day of the leading group with six birdies and two bogeys. The birds came on Nos. 2, 3, 5, 11, 15 and the 18th. James Prosperi is in fourth an one-stroke back at 3-under while Sean Lindstrom was 1-under and in fifth.
