4-under-par 67 takes lead
POMPANO BEACH, Florida (January 1, 2007) --
Mayule Tomimbang of Kissimmee, Florida shot a 4-under-par 67 for a two shot lead over eleven-year-old Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Florida. Thompson is the youngest player ever known to play in the Dixie Amateur.
The Dixie Amateur is one of the oldest amateur golf championships in the United States. It was first played at the Miami Country Club in 1924. The Amateurgolf.com-Bridgestone rankings and Titleist/GOLFWEEK awards points towards national and state rankings.
The Dixie Amateur is held on the Oaks and Cypress courses at Palm-Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach Florida.
The field will be cut to the low 40 and ties after round two which will be played on Wednesday.
