(August 22, 2016) -- At the beginning of U.S. Amateur week Curtis Luck was one of 312 players at Oakland Hills Country Club; by the time the final putt dropped on Sunday he was the only one left standing.
Luck, from Australia, completed his run to the title by defeating American Brad Dalke 6&4 in the championship match.
Down in Rio de Janeiro the Women’s Olympic Tournament concluded with Leona Maguire and Albane Valenzuela sharing low-amateur honors.
REGIONAL NEWS
A pair of AmateurGolf.com members picked up wins at the NCGA Match Play. In the Championship Division Shintaro Ban was victorious while Randy Haag emerged in the Senior Division.
In New England Bobby Leopold won a duel with Brad Valois to take home the Rhode Island Mid-Amateur title while Garren Poirier captured the Vermont Mid-Amateur.
The North & South Senior Men's and Women's Amateur was contested at Pinehurst Resort and it was Paul Simson making history with his Men's Division win. Judith Kyrinis defended her title in the Women's Division.
At the Arkansas Match Play Noah Tullos took home the title. In the Rocky Mountain Open, the third oldest event in Colorado, Isaac Petersilie claimed the Amateur Division in run away fashion.
