Michael Nagy and Wes Gosselin opened with 7-under 65's and share the first round lead at the Chattanooga Choo Choo

CHATTANOOGA, TN (July 25, 2016) -- Michael Nagy and Wes Gosselin opened with 7-under 65's and share the first round lead at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. The duo will carry a one-stroke advantage into the second round at Council Fire Golf Club as they pace a crowded leaderboard. With two rounds still remaining 16 players are within five shots of the lead. Nagy, a recent Tennessee graduate, double-bogeyed No. 2 before turning his day around in a big way with birdies on nine of the next 11 holes. The only holes that Nagy didn't birdie from Nos. 3-13 were the 5th and 7th. Following a bogey on the 14th Nagy parred three holes in a row and then birdied his closing hole to finish the back nine in 4-under 32 after shooting a 3-under 33 on the front side. Chattanooga standout Wes Gosselin joined Nagy on the top of the leaderboard thanks to an eight birdie, one bogey day. Gosselin was a 2016 All-Southern Conference performer this past season after he finished in the top-10 five times and the top-five two times. His 72.37 stroke average was the fifth best in school history. William Weathers and Tripp French (Dayton) both fired 6-under 66's to share third place. Weathers shot his 66 in bogey-free fashion while French birdied five, bogeyed three and eagled two, the par-5 11th and par-4 15th. Ben Wolcott (Ole Miss) and Jared O'Kelley (Cincinnati) are tied for fifth at 5-under. Defending champion Taylor Lewis, playing on his home course, is presently 2-under and tied for 15th.
