Hurly Long defeated Christian Bräunig on the third playoff hole
DREIEICH, Germany (July 24, 2016) -- It took a playoff but in the end German Hurly Long was able to secure the German International Amateur. Long finished the final round at the Golf Club Neuhof e.V. tied with fellow German Christian Bräunig at 7-under before winning on the third extra hole.
After shooting even-par 71's on each of the first two days Long, a junior at Texas Tech, put together back-to-back under-par rounds to close out the week. On Saturday it was a 6-under 65 that spring boarded Long to the top of the leaderboard. Long rolled in seven birdies and dropped just one-stroke during the round.
During his Sunday round Long didn't go as low but he was still able to fire a red figure score with a 1-under 70.
Bräunig began the day 9-under but faltered a bit with a final day 2-over 73. Sunday's round was Bräunig's only over-par score of the week, as he previously shot scores of 68-71-75.
Austrian Michael Ludwig missed out on the playoff by one-stroke finishing third at 5-under, Denmark native Peter Launer Baek was fourth at 5-under while Jeremy Paul of Germany was 4-under and in fifth.
