SAN ANTONIO, TX (July 10, 2016) -- Six back to start the day? Apparently not a problem for 2016 San Antonio Amateur winner Steve Landry who finished 6-under thanks to a 6-under 66 final round.
The eventual champion started the final day at La Cantera Golf Club even-par and seemingly out of the picture. However, after 36-hole leader Colby Harwell, 6-under to begin the day, double-bogeyed the first hole the race was on.
Landry went birdie-bogey to start his round, before beginning his charge on the 4th with his second birdie. On the ensuing hole, the par-5 5th, Landry firmly put himself in the picture with an eagle that jumped him to 3-under-par. A few holes later, on No. 9 it was another birdie that allowed Landry to turn in 4-under 32.
The run continued on the homeward nine with birdies on the 10th, 15th and 16th holes. His only bogey of the came on the 17th, but it proved to not be costly.
Aaron Flores finished 5-under and in second place. Flores did reach 6-under but bogeyed the 12th and was never able to get the stroke back.
Kane Ybarra finished 4-under and in third, Harwell never got things going during the final round and he finished fourth at 3-under. Alex Bissaro was 2-under and in fifth.
