ATLANTA, GA (June 29, 2016) -- Nathan Jeansonne and Jimmy Jones were lights out on the first day of the Dogwood Invitational as they carded 8-under 64's. Jeansonne and Jones will carry a two-stroke lead into the second round at Druid Hills Golf Club.

Jeansonne, a sophomore at LSU, carded ten birdies and two bogeys in his opening Wednesday round. One of top players in the freshman class of 2014, Jeansonne bogeyed the first hole before rattling off five birdies in the next eight holes as he opened in 4-under 32.

The backside was more of the same for Jeansonne with birdies on 12, 14, 15, 16 and 18. His only bogey over the final nine holes came on No. 13.

Col-leader Jimmy Jones, a junior at Florida Southern, got off to a torrid start on the front nine firing a 6-under 29. Following a par on the first hole Jones birdied Nos. 2 and 4. However, his most impressive work was done on holes 7-9 where he went eagle-birdie-eagle.

On the homeward nine of his bogey-free round, the 2015 All-Sunshine State Conference second teamer cooled off and tallied just one more birdie.

Jacob Joiner, a rising junior at Georgia Tech is in third place after a 6-under 66. Joiner was under the radar much of the day until he birdied five of the last six holes. Joiner won the Carpet Capital Collegiate this past season in just his sixth collegiate start.

Seven players are tied for fourth at 5-under while another nine players share 11th at 4-under.

Defending champion Dawson Armstrong (Lipscomb) is 2-under and tied for 35th.
