Green comes from behind to win the Virginia Super Senior Stroke Play
Spotsylvania, VA (June 2, 2016) - Charles Green mounted a beautiful comeback to claim victory at the Virginia Super Senior on Thursday. Trailing by five shots after round one, Green was left on the outside looking in. However, as the first round leader struggled in round two, Green was awarded for his steady play.
Three birdies in the final round were crucial to Green's one shot victory. Despite a double on the par 3 8th and bogeys on 15, 16, and 18, Green was able to claim the title with a two round total of 5-over (149).
Jon Abbett and Lynn Wessman finished T2 with a two round total of 6-over (150).
Perhaps the most dramatic story belongs to first round leader Ward Hamilton. After a brilliant bogey free 69 in round one, he seemed to be poised for victory. Round two was a struggle for Ward with six bogeys, one double, and a quad 7 at the short par 3 4th. He would go on to finish 4th, with a two round total of 7-over (151), only two shots back of the winner Charles Green.
