PITTSBURG, PA (May 25, 2016) - The 17th Western Pennsylvania Public Links Championship proved to be a battle of past champions. After round one, 2013 winner Erik Bertrand held a one shot lead over 2011 winner Sean Knapp. Bertrand opened with an excellent round of 68, but Knapp was right on his heels carding a solid 69.

As round two commenced, the championship was up for grabs. Both players continued their stellar play from round one. Bertrand opened with a 2-under 34, but Knapp wasn’t going away firing a 1-under 35. It was a 2 shot lead for the 2013 champion as they moved to the back nine.

Knapp immediately birdied 10 to narrow the lead back to one. After matching pars on 11 and 12, Bertrand would birdie both 13 and 14. With Knapp making bogey on 14, the lead was now 4 shots. Both players would go on to bogey 16, and despite a bogey on the par 4 17th, Bertrand would shoot 6-under 138 to secure a 3 shot victory and become a two time champion of the event.

Last year's champion, Tim Bowers, finished in a tie for 12th after opening with an 82 and coming back with a 71.

Michael Courtad of Morgan, Pa. won the Senior Amateur Pub Links by six (over Dan Reid of Pittsburgh) with rounds of 73 and 79.
