NEWARK, OH (May 26, 2016) - Matt Collins started the final day of the Columbus Mid-Amateur three behind but after a second consecutive 1-over 72 he was able to secure a one-stroke triumph. Collins finished the 36-hole event at Moundbuilders Country Club 2-over-par. First round leader Andrew Montooth was second at 3-over.
Montooth was the only player under-par after a first round 3-under 68, however he opened the door to the field with a second round 6-over 77. It was the front nine 6-over 42 that did Montooth in. He tried to make a run on the back nine but even-par golf left him one shot out of a potential playoff.
Given an opportunity to win the tournament Collins played steady final round golf. Collins parred 15 holes on Thursday while carding two bogeys and a birdie on No. 11.
During Wednesday's first round Collins opened the tournament with consecutive birdies after starting on the 10th hole. He then struggled for a stretch bogeying four of eight holes, before regaining his form on his second nine with two birdies and a bogey.
Jason Leeds, after posting a two round 7-over mark was third while Mark Monfort was 8-over and fourth. An additional four players tied for fifth with a 36-hole tally of 9-over.
In the Senior Division James Stevning (+6) was a two-stroke winner over three players tied for second. Bill Worthington (+5) was also a two shot winner in the Super Senior Division.
