GREENVILLE, MS (May 14, 2016) - Thanks a to a 5-under 67 in the second round Eddie Brescher is now 7-under and at the top of the Mississippi Mid-Amateur leaderboard. He will begin Sunday's final round at Greenville Country Club two shots ahead of a trio of players tied for second.

Following a 1-under 71 on Friday Brescher began the day three-strokes behind first round leader and defending champion Josh Lampley. But as Lampley struggled to a second round 4-over 76 dropping him to even-par and tenth place Bresher was busy shooting the round of the tournament.

Bresher from Hattiesburg, opened in 3-under 33 carding three birdies on the front nine. As he made the turn Bresher had his only slip of the day bogeying No. 10 before regaining his form and birdieing three more holes to finish his round, including a bounce back bird on No. 11.

A number of players will begin the final round in the mix. Noah Goldman, Scott Rhodes and Clay Homan all share second at 4-under while Neil Trimm, Ben Snow and Clinton Van Devender are three back at 3-under and tied for fifth. Two other are five back with a 1-under tally that ties them for eighth.

Eddie Brescher and Noah Goldman make up tomorrow's final group and they will tee off at 9:00 a.m.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Defending champion Josh Lampley opened with a 4-under 68 to lead the Mississippi Mid-Amateur by one at Greenville Country Club. Scott Rhodes and Clay Homan will begin Saturday's second round tied for second place at 3-under. In all 11 players are within three shots of the lead with 36-holes remaining.

Lampley, from Gulfport, played two rounds within a single round on Friday. He bogeyed the first hole and after a string of pars bogeyed No. 11 to drop to 2-over for the day before catching fire to close out his round.

On No. 12 Lampley picked up his first birdie of the day then tallied another on the 13th. Following a par on 14 Lampley birdied out with four consecutive birds. When his torrid stretch came to a close Lampley had birdied six of his final seven holes as he surged to the top of the leaderboard.

ABOUT THE Mississippi Mid-Amateur

Tournament is scheduled for 54 holes of stroke play (36 holes for women). The Championship is open to amateurs who have reached their 25th birthday and are bona fide residents of the state of Mississippi for at least 60 days prior to the first round of the tournament. Participants must conform with the USGA Rules of Amateur Status. All participants in Mississippi Golf Association State Championships will be required to have an active GHIN Handicap through a USGA Licensed Mississippi Club. Participants must be bona fide residents of the state of Mississippi for at least 60 days prior to the first round of the tournament.
