The Kentucky Senior Team winners were crowned after overnight storms muddied up the course

LEXINGTON, KY (May 12, 2016) - Overnight storms threatened the final round of the Kentucky Senior Team Championship. Luckily the golf course rebounded from two and half inches of rain to allow for an exciting finish! In fact, it was a beautiful day for golf with low humidity and warmer temperatures, especially for those teams who define themselves as “mudders.” The Legends Division participated in Chapman Alternate Shot competition on the Wildcat Course. Larry Grasch and Gary Smith of Frankfort fired an impressive 67 to overcome a three shot deficit in the opening round to take home Low Gross honors. 2015 Champs, Don Wood of Louisville and Jim Richards of Bowling Green finished second gross and two shots back with a 141 total. Low Net honors went to Fred Gupton of Louisville and George Gupton of Campbellsville after a two round total of 124. They had an impressive five shot victory over Bill Harding of Louisville and Don Wirth of Prospect. The Masters Division participated in Chapman Alternate Shot competition on the Wildcat Course. Rick Smith and Phil Holley, both of Winchester, edged out first round leaders Mike Arthur of Crestview Hills and John Bain of Edgewood by one shot for the Low Gross victory and a total score of 146. Finishing Third Gross was John Boyd and Allan Fugate, both of Louisville at 149. The Low Net Victory went to Joe Burke and Lewis Burke, both of Danville with a 124 total. This victory came in good karma, as they provided doughnuts for their field from their bakery. Finishing Second Net was Norman Spalding of Finley and Doug Elliott of Springfield with a 126. They finished three shots ahead of Richard Williams of Campbellsville and Mark Zehnder of Louisville. The Mid-Senior Division participated in Chapman Alternate Shot competition on the Wildcat Course. David Jasper of Prospect and David Brown of Louisville overcame some early round difficulties for the Low Gross victory and a two round total of 138. Michael Crabtree of Nicholasville and Jason Cole of Lexington took home Low Net honors with a two round total of 132 and a scorecard playoff victory. The Senior Division participated in Four-Ball competition on the Big Blue Course. Congratulations to Terry Bowman of Louisville for his hole-in-one on the 17th hole with a five-iron! This feat marks his EIGHTH ace! Jimmy Riddle of Madisonville and Steve Rogers of Bowling Green had some pretty solid playing of their own – firing a final round 65 to take Low Gross Championship title and five shot victory. Tom Scheuerman of Pee Wee Valley and Gary Backlund of Mt. Sterling finished second with a 141 total. Finishing Third Gross was Bill Leavell and Scott Pottinger and Rick Cain and Mike Campbell, all of Louisville. Defending Champions Kenneth Kirchner and Stefan Robbins finished Fourth Gross. Low Net honors went to Christopher Hill of Danville and Vernon Denham of Louisville with a 126 total. They edged out Randy Mefford of Carrollton and Ricky Bourne of Owenton by one shot. Third Net Finishers were David Farrell and Paul Stephens, both of Ashland.
