Blue Raiders hold on for win while Nadine White of Campbell is medalist
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL (April 5, 2016)--The winds were swirling and scoring was tough on the final day of the Web.com Intercollegiate but Middle Tennessee (873) was able to hold on and win by one over Campbell (874). It was the second win of the season for Middle Tennessee.
"This was a great team win for us and what better time to win than just before the Conference USA Championship," head coach Middle Tennessee head coach Chris Adams said following the road.
The win was the 16th team win in program history and the 11th career win for Adams.
Middle Tennessee was led by redshirt senior Emily Miller (+1) as she finished T5. After back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 Miller shot a closing 1-over-par 73.
"It was tough out there today with swirling winds and the overall scores were higher today, but we managed down the stretch and were able to come out on top," Adams continued to say.
Behind Miller in T8 was senior Avery George (+2). Also playing well for the Blue Raiders were freshman Hanley Long (+7) T21 and junior Samantha Gotcher (+8) T27.
Middle Tennessee will now have a couple of weeks off before they look to defend their Conference USA team title. The tournament will be contested from April 18-20 at Verandah Golf Club in Fort Meyers, FL.
Despite finishing one-stoke behind Middle Tennessee in the team race Campbell did not go home empty handed. Junior Nadine White (-4) began the day leading the individual race by one before winning by two-stokes and earning her second victory of the season. Nadine followed day one rounds of 70-68 with a 2-over-par 74. In tough conditions Nadine played steady golf carding three bogey's and a birdie.
White finished two-strokes ahead of second place finisher Missouri freshman Emma Allen (-2) and one more stroke in front of Toledo senior Sathika Ruenreong (-1). White, Allen and Ruenreong were the only three players to finish the 54-hole event under-par.
Completing the top 5 in the team standings are North Florida (881) in third while Coastal Carolina (882) and Toledo (882) shared fourth.
