The field is continuing to fill as the May U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club draws closer

(March 14, 2016)--Qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Four Ball has continued over the last few months. Most recently qualifying play for the 2016 event in May at Winged Foot Golf Club took place at Kings Country Club in Hansford, CA. The main draw will be held from May 21-25. The two-teams that qualified out of Kings Country Club on March 7th were Danny Paniccia (Clovis, CA) a four-time Fresno City Amateur champion and Michael Stieler (Coarsegold, CA). Also qualifying were Mason Glinski (Oxnard, CA) who finished second in the 2014 California Public Links and Jacob Johnson (Ventura, CA). Both teams shot 5-under 67’s to punch their tickets to Winged Foot. Three teams finished in second place just one-stroke back. The teams included Wade Calmer (La Habra, CA) and Steve Schiro (Signal Hill, CA); Taylor Hobin (Antioch, CA) and Kevin O’Brien (San Francisco, CA); Brady Baguio (Bakersfield, CA) and Antonio Denesha (Bakersfield, CA). Five more teams finished two-back at 3-under par. Back in February at the Black Diamond Ranch, Quarry Course in Lacanto, FL two more spots were determined. Matt Giovannelli (Ocala, FL) the second place finisher in last years Florida Mid-Amateur Championship and David Griffin (Ocala, FL) finished alone in first with a 4-under par 68. The second spot up for grabs was determined via a three-team playoff as a trio of teams finished tied at 3-under par. In the playoff Stan Gann Jr. (Bonaire, GA) winner of three straight Macon-Middle Georgia Championships and Travis Steed (Macon, GA) came out on top. The other teams to compete in the playoff were Matthew McLaughlin (Barrington, IL) and Christian Vozza (Orlando, FL); Christopher Brandt (Sarasota, FL) and Jon Whittemore (Sarasota, FL). In early December the duo of Justin Arcano (Wailuku, HI) and Justin Ngan (Wailuku, HI) qualified for the event by winning a three-team playoff at Ewa Beach Golf Club in Ewa Beach, HI. After posting a 3-under 69 the pair beat the groups of Kengo Aoshima (Honolulu, HI) and Shawn Lu (Honolulu, HI); Royden Heirakuji (Makawao, HI) and Jay Kurisu (Maui, HI) to earn their way in.
