Danny Getson birdied the second playoff hole after shooting a 2-under-par 70

TEQUESTA, Fla. (September 22, 2006) - Danny Getson of Royal Palm Beach earned his first Palm Beach County Golf Association title Friday, winning the third annual Bobby Bryant Memorial Mid-Senior tournament at the Turtle Creek Club. Getson birdied the second playoff hole after he tied at two under par 70 with former major league pitcher Jimmy Key of Stuart. After they halved the ninth hole with par-4s, Getson chipped to within inches from behind the green at the par-5 10th for a tap-in birdie. "The first thing I'm going to do is call my dad, Bill, up in Melbourne," Getson said. "He always said he would pay for my golf lessons so I could go win something. I've never taken many lessons and I've be playing in Palm Beach County tournament since 1989 and this is the first thing I've won." In regulation, Getson, 43, a general contractor, made five birdies and three bogies. Key, 45, also had five birdies, adding one bogey and a double bogey at the par-4 seventh hole. "I made a lot of putts but I hit it into a fairway bunker at the seventh and it just got worse from there." Key retired from baseball after the 1998 season, compiling a 186-117 won-loss record in 15 years as a left-handed starting pitcher for Toronto, the New York Yankees and Baltimore. A member at the Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens, Key is playing his first season in the PBCGA. He plays golf right-handed. Carl Mistretta of North Palm Beach was the low net winner in a match of cards among four players tied at 69.
