USC cruises to victory at The Gold Rush, sweeping the top three individuals spots led by freshman Robynn Ree
Seal Beach, Calif. (Feburary 23, 2016) -- The USC Trojans secured their 3rd victory of the season by way of an 18-stroke margin at the Gold Rush hosted by Old Ranch Country Club.
The Trojans built up a wide margin over the field after posting rounds of 286 (2-under) and 287 (1-under) to open the tournament. A final round 292 was plenty to secure the victory with Fresno State, Long Beach State, Colorado State, and BYU rounding out the top 5.
The main battle came between the Trojans Robynn Ree, Amy Lee (playing as an individual), and Tiffany Chan for the individual title. Lee grabbed the lead at 2-under after the front nine and added a birdie on hole 16 to post 3-under.
After a slow start, Ree caught fire, making birdies on holes 15 through 17 to close out her round at 4-under, edging Lee by one shot and Chan by two. This is the 2nd time this season that USC has had four players inside the top 10 as Karen Chung finished in a tie for 9th.
The Trojans return to the links March 4-6 at the Darius Rucker Invitational at Long Cove C.C. in Hilton Head, S.C
