With a final round 68 that included a back nine finish of 3-under, Mason Elmore wins the Donald Ross Junior by one stroke

More than 260 junior golfers from 22 different states competed in the 68th annual Donald Ross Junior Championship held Dec. 28 and 29. Mason Elmore of Charlotte, N.C. took home the title in the 15-18 age division. His bogey-free 68 in the second round on Pinehurst No. 5 led to a one-stroke victory over first round leader Evan Brown of Chadds Ford, Pa. Elmore, a high school junior, started the tournament with a solid 72 on Pinehurst No. 4. He finished his last nine holes three under par, while Brown struggled and came in +4. Stephen Cerbara of Langhorne, Pa., who competed in a three-way playoff last year, finished third. Davis Lamb (Potomac, Md.), Grant Powell (Colfax, N.C.) and Jimbo Stanley (Raleigh, N.C.) all finished tied for fourth. Joseph Pagdin, last year’s runner-up, was the champion in the 12-14 age division. Over his last four rounds on Pinehurst No. 1, Pagdin is a combined eleven under par. The Orlando native shot a seven under par 63 in his final round. Bryson Morrell of Knoxville, Tenn. and Narayan Mohan of Charlotte tied for second. Coming in tied for fourth was James Tureskis of Naples, Fla. and Luke Sample of New York, NY. Slade Aliff took home top honors in the 11 & under age division.Slade Aliff of Hardy, Va. captured the 11 & under age division. His rounds of 74 and 76 were good enough for a two-shot victory over Kareem Elkassem of Raleigh, N.C. Tied for third was last year’s runner-up Darren Choi of Toronto, Canada and Shaun Cook from Norcross, Ga. Bryan Fang of Raleigh, N.C. finished fifth.
