Through the first round of the Carolinas Senior Open, Sherrill Britt of West End, N.C. fired 66 at Mid Pines Inn

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Amateur player Sherrill Britt is off and running at the Pine Needles/Mid Pines Carolinas Senior Open. His opening-round 66, six-under par at Mid-Pines Inn, leads the field of mostly professionals by three with one round to go, which will be played at Pine Needles Resort. Pros Rick Lewallen (69) and Christopher Hodge (72) are in second and third place, respectively, while amateur Keith Waters holds onto fourth place at 74.
