Michael Kelly holds on for win at Washington Metropolitan Senior

In the Super Senior division, Dick Blackburn finished with 73 to edge Don Jeanes by a stroke
FREDERICK, Md. — Michael Kelly (Lake Presidential GC) held on with his second even par 72 to take the 71st Metropolitan Senior title at Worthington Manor Golf Club on Tuesday, Sept. 21. After bogeying the 16th and 17th holes, Kelly holed an eight-footer for par on #18, thereby securing a two stroke edge over John Armstrong (74-72--146) who had finished earlier. Ben Clements (73-74--147) and Robert Morris (73-74--147) finished tied for third while 2013 runner-up Larry Martone (75--78--153) claimed fifth place.
In the Super Senior division, Dick Blackburn of Belle Haven finished with a 73 to go with his opening 75 for a two stroke margin over Don Jeanes (73-77--150). Sunnehanna Super Senior winner Barry Flaer finished third with 76-76--154 while Lynn Wessman (78-77--155) took fourth; George Washburn (78-78-156) fifth and Bill Darden (76-81-157) sixth.
Players who competed Tuesday in both divisions had survived the 18-hole cut on Monday. Par for both groups was 72-72--144 with the seniors playing at 6,445 yards and the super seniors at 5,948 yards.
The golf course was in super condition with Superintendent Kirk Warburton and Assistant Superintendent Patrick Sevigny overseeing the outstanding maintenance staff. Host professional and general manager Ed Coyle and his colleagues offered the kind of wonderful hospitality that has become standard for Worthington Manor Golf Club under the ownership of Bob Sturges.
