Sam Triplett finishes low-amateur at Arizona Open
Sam Triplett
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Northwestern University sophomore Sam Triplett tied for seventh place at the Arizona Open while finishing just four shots back of the winner. His performance earned him low-amateur honors at Troon Country Club in Scottsdale.
After a first-round 70, the Scottsdale native trailed leaders David McDaniel and Jim Carter by three. Then, entering the last day with a four-shot deficit, Triplett at one point got to 1-under on the day, which would have put him in solo fifth place. But two late bogeys dropped him outside the top-five.
Still, Triplett was the lowest amateur in the field by two, finishing ahead of former UC Davis golfer Jonny Baxter and and UNLV's Zane Thomas.
