Four amateurs in contention at Colorado Open
University of Colorado graduate David Oraee
DENVER, Colo. — The opening round of the 2015 HealthONE Colorado Open took place Thursday at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver, Colo.
Although the field is comprised of primarily professionals, four amateurs are in the hunt early. Amateur David Oraee opened with 4-under par 68 and trails the lead by three shots. The recent University of Colorado graduate from Greeley, Colo. made bogey on his opening hole which turned out to be his only bogey of the day as he made all pars and five birdies the rest of the way.
Also firing rounds of 68 were amateurs Ross McDonald of Castle Rock, Colo., Ethan Freeman of Denver, Colo., and Tanner Jenson of Parker, Colo. The trio all had very solid rounds with McDonald going bogey-free and Freeman and Jenson each making five birdies to one bogey. McDonald will join Freeman as part of the University of Colorado squad this fall.
The field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties following the completion of Friday’s second round. For those who make the cut, 36-holes on Saturday and Sunday will decide the champion.
